During Thursday, Friday and Saturday of last week I attended my SQH Course Four Residential at Peebles Hydro. I really enjoyed the three days including the taught content guest speakers and opportunities for discussion and reflection. Regular readers of my learning log will know that I haven’t always felt that I have got a huge amount out of some other parts of the programme – but I was very satisfied with Course Four.
The main theme for the course was critical incidents which included a very useful talk from Alistair Noble of The Headteachers Association of Scotland (HAS). There was also input on managing change and CPD. On top of all the taught content there was a good opportunity to discuss progress with school improvement projects and also to bounce ideas around colleagues from different sectors and authorities.
On the Friday night I took part in the Course SQH Review Group – I will come back to this in a separate post.
Pleased to see you are enjoying the current unit. When I did the SQH I really enjoyed the study days at Peebles Hydro. Quite apart from the excellent venue, which was sufficiently far from my school to feel detached from the everyday hustle and bustle, the quality of the visiting speakers was invariably first class.I know Alastair Noble well - he is highly regarded by all of us who rely on his advice on occasion! I am keen to have a discussion with those who run the SQH programme to start a discussion about what is not covered in the course that would have been useful to know. I would be interested to find out, if recently qualified SQH graduates, now in HT positions, have views that could enhance and guide the currrent provision and direction for development.
