Ollie - for what it's worth I encourage you to stick with it. It took me 15 years to get into senior management - it's taken you five.

I think you - like a number of other teachers in East Lothian - have the capacity to go on to become an outstanding leader. "Stickability" (if such a term exists) is perhaps one of the most important leadership traits.

Thanks Don, your comments are worth a lot. Ollie

Hi Ollie

I am also surprised that your application was knocked back. It's always hard when you put a great deal of effort into something and think you've covered all the bases and then find out it's not exactly what they wanted. I would be happy to share my experience of the application procedure if you think it might be helpful. Feel free to get in touch.

Thanks Barry, I will definitely be taking you up on your offer. Ollie

Hi Ollie

I've been reading your recent disappointment to not be accepted onto SQH. I'm not working in education so I cannot appreciate the importance. But for as long as I have known you - you have been an inspiration to many people. Ollie you are exceptionally talented leader and teacher. To be a deputy head-teacher so quickly in your career is an amazing success story and I have no doubt you will continue to be successful. You only fail when you give up! So you could be accepted onto SQH next year. Good luck. By the way your website is fantastic and I enjoy reading your news. Take care,Claire Wilson.

Thanks for your kind comments Claire. Don’t worry I have no intention of giving up – it’s not my style! Really pleased you like reading the blog. Take care, Ollie
