Ollie Bray
Award Winning Teacher, School Leader, Government Adviser & Thinker
Ollie has had a successful and varied career working in Scottish education. He has been a teacher, head of department, school leader and Senior Government Adviser. This inlcuded spending over three years as the National Adviser for Emerging Technologies for Learning at Education Scotland. Education Scotland is the education agency responsible for curriculum development and evaluation in Scotland. Until recently he was the senior policy adviser for the Scottish Governments Technologies for Learning Strategy.
Based in the Cairngorms National Park, he currenly works internationally with teachers, schools and governments to improve education outcomes for learners through the appropriate use of technology and outdoor learning. His substative post is Depute Head Teacher at Grantown Grammar School.
Over the years Ollie has won numerous awards for innovative classroom practice & project development including recognition from the Royal Geographical Society and the Scottish Qualifications Authority. Recently, at the Microsoft European Innovative Teachers Forum in Vienna, he was awarded first place in the category for Innovation in the use of ICT for the work that he has done on the use of computer games to enhance learning.
Ollie is one of Scotland’s leading experts on Internet safety and responsible use for schools and was one of the first CEOP (Child Exploitation Online Protection Agency) Ambassadors in the UK. He has run workshops for over 1000 adults across Scotland and developed sustainable community driven models to promote the responsible use of the Internet. He was honoured by CEOP in 2011 for his work on Internet Safety and Resposnible Use in Schools.
As well as technology, Ollie is passionate about outdoor learning and getting children out of the classroom. He remains a full member of the Association of Mountaineering Instructors and regularly advises schools and other organizations on outdoor learning policy and practice.
Outside of his day job he has consulted for a wide range of stakeholders including Microsoft, Apple, Google, Intel, BBC, Oxford Education, Hodder Gibson, Boardworks and Young Scot. His current interests include social media in schools, computer games in education, mobile technologies, school design and 21st century school leadership.
He is an award winnng author, Apple Distinguished Educator, Google Certified Teacher, member of the SCSSA Advisory Group on School Leadership and member of the CEOP Education Advisory Board. In his spare time he leads global youth wilderness adventures for Leading Edge Expeditions.
