I’m just back from a week in London which included visits to The World Leaders Education Forum, UK Education Leaders Conference, a number of industry engagement meetings as part of the Scotland’s Technologies for Learning Strategy and BETT 2011. It has been an exhausting week of meetings, public speaking, product review and learning.
It is pretty interesting what is going on with UK education at the moment, particularly in England. I continue to think we have got a lot right in Scotland but the next 2 – 3 years will be some of most important for Scotland’s changing education landscape.
In short, we can’t afford to take our foot off the gas with our own education reform and we can’t let little things like the formation of SEQIA, the Scottish election on the 5th May and the realities of the economic climate get in the way of our progress. To be successful we are going to need some joined up thinking at the highest level and the continued empowerment of our teaching profession. I’m optimistic we can achieve this and we don’t really have a choice.
As with BETT 2009 and BETT 2010 I am always keen to share my experience of what I saw at BETT so I’ll be posting what I saw up here over the next week or so.
