The Tagging Game: Seven facts about me

Simon_tradcloth

Laurie O’Donnell has tagged me in the seven things you didn’t know about me new year tagging game. As John Connell points out,

Memes such as this one are nice, fun ways for the blogging community to get to know a little of each other beyond what we can glean from the blogs themselves.’

So here are my seven facts:

1. Geography was the only subject that I failed at GCSE -  it’s a funny old world isn’t it!

2. I’m dyslexic and still really struggle with spelling - spell check and computers revolutionised the way that I was able to communicate to people. Although this blog is full of typos and words that aren’t spelt correctly. Starting this website has been the best thing I have ever done to improve my writing and spelling. Could there be a lesson in there somewhere?

3. I was asked to leave the school staff choir at a school that I once worked at, after just one rehearsal. I can’t sing a note, play a musical instrument and I’m completely tone deaf.   Despite this I like a range of modern and classical music.

4. I was the youngest person in the UK to complete the Summer Mountain Leader Award – perhaps I still am?

5. I only thought I would stay in Scotland for a couple of years – in 2009 that was ten years ago! And I still have hundreds of miles of river, loch, hill and rock to travel.

6. I’ve completed the Devizes to Westminster 125mile (non-stop) canoe marathon.

7. I’ve got an unhealthy fascination for the Inuit and the culture of native North America. Particularly canoe and kayak history. My house if full of books on these subjects. I’m currently reading, ‘The Eskimo Storyteller: folktales from Noatak, Alaska’ compiled by Edwin Hall.

Now it’s my turn to tag seven people, I pick:

  1. Alan Parkinson (Geographical Association Secondary Co-ordinator)
  2. Bill Stephen (Outdoor Education Teach and Coach from East Lothian)
  3. Donald McDonald (Headteacher Liberton high School, Edinburgh)
  4. James Clay (ILT & Learning Resources Manager at Gloucestershire College)
  5. Louise Jones (Health & Wellbeing Subject Supporter for the Highland Council)
  6. Merlin John (Journalist and Consultant)
  7. Paul Seys (Head of Head of User Experience, Redweb)

Thanks for tagging me Ollie. I've got something to do this afternoon now...
How do I tell people they've been tagged ? Or do they come across their name on a blog... ;)

Hi Alan you can tell them - but if you link to their blog it should show up on their blog dashboard.

I have to keep my husband (canoez.blogspot.com) away from your blog otherwise he's going to want to do one of your canoe trips on our next trip to the UK!

So how did you end up teaching geography if you failed it at GCSE?

Ollie, interesting facts indeed. For some reason this hasn't tagged up on the wordpress software? Good fun though.

Barney - it was painful for me laughing about out A-Level Geography / Geology days and Welsh adventures!
