iPhone in Education (3 of 5): iGlow?

If you look at the above image you can see that I have GLOW – Scotland’s National Intranet - as a direct link button on my iPhone. When I press the button it takes me directly to the GLOW Scotland login page.

 

From here I can access various parts of the GLOW Intranet including my own part of the portal, the National Pages and the East Lothian Pages. The East Lothian Home Page is shown below.

 

Here’s how you make a quick direct link icon from your iPhone desktop:

1. Go to the page that you want to create the link to.

2. ‘Pinch’ the screen until you have zoomed in on the part of the screen that you want to use to make the icon. Press the ‘+’ button at the bottom of the screen.

3. Select ‘Add to Home Screen’ from the menu.

 

4. and hay presto you have a direct link to the GLOW portal from your iPhone desktop!

 

Of course – what we really want is for a very clever person who knows how to build iPhone Apps to build an App (available in the Apps Store) which places an icon on your iPhone desktop, gives you the option of remembering you password and logs you straight into GLOW.

If we did this and advertised the button (and similar buttons for other phones) within GLOW. I think children would download the App onto the iPhone / iPod touch and / or other handheld device.
