Alan Parkinson – New role, new responsibilities and new vision!
I’ve been friends with Alan Parkinson
the creator of Geography Pages
for the past few years. We have a number of things in common including our love
of Geography, Google Earth, Technology and Single Malt!
Alan has been an innovator
and Head of the Geography Department at King Edward VII School in Norfolk
One of his new major roles
is to create and sustain networks (real and virtual) for teachers of Geography
in England.
The SLN
Geography Forum is the most successful on-line subject forum that I have
ever come across and I think that many other subject areas have a lot to learn
from it. I also know that Alan is also very keen to build on the Teachmeet / un-conference philosophy
and create a similar programme for Geography teachers.
These are very exciting time
for Geography in England.
Well done Alan – I’ll see you at the Scottish
Learning Festival!
Confused about the photograph – It was taken on a recent Google Earth Training Course and I suspect that Alan was hoping to get photographed by a Google Satellite. So when you were in Google Earth, you thought that it was a field of swans but then when you zoom in you realise it’s a lumberjack asleep in a field of swans?

Thanks for the kind words Ollie. Not been the subject of many blog posts before...
Once I start my new post in September it'll be all systems go on networking and other projects, which I've already started...
As for the picture, it was taken in Hyde Park, and I'm demonstrating one tactic for "Hyde and Seek": blending in with the wildlife...
