Google fights climate change
One of the
aims of Google.org is to help combat climate
change. Today
Google made two exciting announcements that I am sure will help them do
this. The first is a plug in rechargeable car that runs of electricity for
shorter journeys but still uses fuel (eventually bio-fuel) for longer journeys.
There is quite a nice video about the project here:
The second
is the new solar panels that they have installed at the Googleplex to help them save
money. According to Google the,
‘electricity output capable of powering approximately 1,000 average California homes -- the Google project is the largest solar installation on any corporate campus in the U.S. to date, and one of the largest on any corporate site in the world.’
You can
even have a look at their performance monitoring site
to see how much energy the panels are producing at the current moment…
…and
compare the amount of energy to the energy consumed by everyday goods.
Nice work
Google, I think that both of threes things will make an interesting case study
for a unit on climate change and corporate responsibility.
