Last Thursday afternoon I went on a CEOP Think
U Know training course to allow me to deliver the Think U Know Training programme within
schools. I have been at a Think U Know event before at the SQA in Glasgow and I was
delighted to be invited to become a trainer and find out more about their
schools programme.
During the afternoon we went over some of the new web technologies such as blogs, podcasting, social spaces, instant messaging, internet TV etc… To be honest there was nothing new for me here, but the content was presented in a really interesting way as has given me a lot of interesting ideas as to how I might role out similar training to staff, pupils and parents.
The second part of the afternoon was spent going over the student training pack and resources CD. The training resource that has been produced is really good and I think the content will be well received within schools. I have embedded one of the video’s above, so that you can find out more about CEOP. It’s sends home a powerful message about internet safety and the importance of responsible use within social spaces.
I am interested in becoming a CEOP Ambassador. This is a scheme that they are going to start to roll out from the start of the next academic year. As I understand it, it means that I would be able to train staff on behalf of CEOP and would be considered as having official expertise in internet / on-line safety. I think it would be an excellent professional development opportunity for me to go through this accreditation.
If you have not visited the Think U Know website it is worth a look and there is lots of information about online and mobile phone safety for students, parents and teachers.

That's a really good website with information pitched at the kids level. I didn't know about it. Thanks Ollie

No problem Dorothy - glad you like it. There is also a primary school version being developed. OB
