I am nowhere near completing the game yet but it was a great mystery to start to get into. Basically it is a graphic adventure game detective novel set in an imaginary hotel. The game is highly text driven and you have to solve the puzzles within the hotel to find out what’s going on. I have embedded the trailer for the game below.
The thing that has really impressed me about the game so far is the quality of the writing and the quality of the story. The writing quality, plot and sentence structure is far more advanced compared to other graphic novels based adventure games that I have played such as Phoenix Wright and Trauma Centre.
I think the potential education use for this game will be outstanding.
For more information on using graphic novels with classes see the LTS Literacy website.
UPDATE: I finished this game today, although I understand it does have a number of alternative positive endings as well as being thrown out of the hotel. It’s a well written great game, with some great problem solving, a great storyline. It has an enormous amount of potential to be used in education to improve literacy skills and to encourage creative writing.
